I made all these cute angry bird costumes for the family. I also made this Halloween banner for RS night craft.

I spray painted a big stick in the yard and gave it a spooky web with tons of spiders. Inside I got a smaller stick and added snakes and skeletons. The kids loved helping make our house scary.

My corn is looking good. I pulled out the lettuce and spinach earlier this month and planted new seeds for the fall. I have lots of onions more than I know what to do with. To bad I don't like onion soup. Tomatoes are small, I think its because of the wet June we had. I now have flowers in all three beds. I think next I should buy flower starts not seeds. I have a few zucchini, yum.

Our friends let us use their cute little camping trailer. It works so good for our family. We have had some great times in it. I thought we should dress it up to thank them for letting us use it. Before the curtains were dust balls and totally gross, they didn't open very well or close all the way. Now they are awesome. I think they will wash up well too. We did two different patterns to make it feel like two different spaces.

This cute face is the next generation quilter in my family. She is cute now by when she is in my needles and bobbins at 6:30 in the morning not so cute. Gracie will sit on my lap and help pull out pins while I sew its really fun.

End of June Veggie Garden

This is what my garden looks like at the End of June. The Peas are giant look at Wyatt he is so shrimpy next to them. I am over whelmed with lettuce and spinach. The boys wont let the carrot get bigger than a chapstick, I can't get to mad they love no matter what size. My tomatoes are a little close together. Last years surprised potatoes made me move my pumpkins. The corn is so little but it makes me so happy.

I love my front flower garden its almost maintenance's free. I just do a little work in the fall then leave it the rest of the year long. ok, I do pull a few weeds every once in a while, but that's it. Don't you love Weeping Willow tree.

I started and stoped this quilt last summer. I had to hand cute all the squares, each of them are like 3 inches and it takes 4 to make a 5 inch square. Its going to take forever for me to get it done. I just made the strips with the white. At first I didn't like it but as I keep push forward Its growing on me.

I have been wanting to learn how to jam for along time. Raspberry jam is one of my favorites. As my in laws were making some. I told her how much I wanted to learn and the next day they bought the stuff and told me to come with some clean jars. They also invited Tawnie and Alena to make some. After we finished up with all the jars we made raspberry shakes with some jam. I think Paul has made a shake almost every night since. It was so fun to do it together. I know I could have look on line to see how to do it. I think it was more than learning it was also sharing like our ancestor did. Another dieing art like quilting.

June Garden 2011

The first bed is my spring garden sugar peas, lettuce, onions, spinach, carrots. I did just add some flowers seeds. The middle is bush beans on the right, onions, flowers, 4 kinds of tomatoes,
4 bell peppers, 2 kinds of hot peppers, 1 zucchini, 1 cucumber. The last bed has potatoes, corn, pumpkins, watermelon, sweet potato, and more flowers. So with a little water, some sun and allot of faith I will have lots to eat this summer. I am enjoying great salad already.

A long friendship

Dayna my mother in law has this old friend that is super sick with cancer. Dayna ask if I could make her a happy quilt in a week to give her friend before she left for home back east. well this is what I came up with, I really like it. I am super shocked that I did it all in that short of time. Dayna is a wonderful and kind person. I hope I am as lucky to find a friend like her that would stick by and be a life long friend. Wait, scratch that I hope I am like Dayna valiant and loving until the end.

I am finished with these two quilts I started almost 3 years ago. I got the first quilt pattern from my quilt guild. It's called "the almost oh my gosh." I loved how it turned out. The second quilt was for the back of the first, but then Melissa and Paul said it was too awesome to put on the back so I made two. The back of the second is fancier than I would have done. I bought that hot pink and go it home and hated it so, I threw it in my stash and added some other colors. I quilted them myself on my Bernina on top of my kitchen table. I binded them in the same fabric just different colors. I really love how they turned out and am so happy that they are done.

I made the boys these cute ties. They came in the quilt shop and picked out their own fabric. I have never seen them so excited to go inside a quilt store. Wyatt picked an orange on orange, I thought was a little too bright, I couldn't change his mind after he saw it. Dean picked this cute monkey print, it total looks like him. I didn't make Gracie's Easter dress I probably should have but I found a great dress at TJMax.

Helping hands

I helped on both of these quilts. The baby girl one was for Jill's baby. Melissa had all the fabric in her stash and we both worked on it. Melissa did a great job quilting it, I think she is getting really good.
The tool quilt is the work of Dayna, my mother-in-law. She had the tool fabric for years. We went to the store and found a sweet deal on the black and tan fabric, I think it was like $2.75 a yard. I helped come up with the design and the top. Dayna did all the quilting and binding. I really am impressed with how well she did.

Brittany picked out this cute fabric. My sister-in-law loves blue, gray, black, and brown. So when we found this fabric it was like it was made for her and her soon to be baby boy. I bought some of it and came up with this cute baby quilt. I love pinwheels for baby boys and I left the seams out so the he could rub his face on it (my baby loves to touch her blanky until she falls a sleep). I had the quilter quilt animals in it. I think the back looks so awesome it really matches the front. I really love how this turned out.

Garden time

I hope I get a little luck from the Irish since I started this green garden on St. Patty's day. I hand tilled one of my three garden beds. I planted onions, carrots, 2 kinds of lettuce, peas, swiss chard, spinach. I still need to get broccoli and cabbage starts, they were not in the farm store yet. I planted some marigolds indoors in a egg carton. We will see what will come up in a few weeks. Befor and after garden beds.

Spring is Commin

We have these little spring gems popping out, telling us spring is on its way. The kids and I are so happy to see them. Wyatt is a goof in this photo. In the last two photos is my new flower bed we built late last fall. I only was able to move a few flowers from my front yard. With the move I got one little lonely yellow crocuse. I am so excited to get this flower bed going. I wish I had a money tree next to the flower bed in the yard. But with a little hard work and help from my neighbor. My plan is to get some starts from her yard and move some from my front yard. So we will just have to see at the end of the summer.

Gracie hated her babie's outfit as much as I did. I made her a cute little dress. I think I will make more. It was quick and easy to do. She loves it. Look how happy she is in the last picture.

This is my first and last loom hat that I made. I made it for the homeless shelter with other ladies in my ward. I was happy I did it but I think I will buy hats from now on.

Paul got me a part time job sewing these little pouches for a Buddie. I am showing them off here because I learned how to put in a zipper. The day I was making these bags Gracie kept coming up to me with her dolly and some scraps of minkie. She wanted me to wrap up her baby with a tinny scrap. So I made her not one but four dolly blankets. I thought someday Gracie will have some friends over and they will all want a blanket to play with.

Brianna loves her quilt. She is a doll. Her mom is a photographer can you tell , you can look at her blog here. Brianna and Gracie are 6 or 7 months apart. I used the same fabrics but a different color way. The lady that quilted them did it the same design. I can't wait until they are 3 years old and best friends. I can just see it know they are playing house with their baby dolls wrapped up in their matchy blankies.

I made lots of zucchini bread. The kids love zucchini bread but Paul refuses to try it, what a baby sometimes. I haven't done anything yet with my squash but hopefully soon before it rots.

Homemade salsa, everything but the lemon and pepper. This photo makes me laugh. I didn't think to take the picture until the bowl was almost gone.

The one and only pumpkin we got this year. It was pretty good size so next year we need to plant lots more to try to get a pumpkin for each kid.

Corn Corn Corn. This is a picture of my super tall corn after a storm. Thank goodness for my Father-in-law, he came over and roped it back up for me. We got awesome corn out of it, almost as big and nice as the corn you buy from the stands. Next year we need to plant lots more of this.

Four Foot Flowers

Next year I need to look at the seed package better. When it reads marigolds, 30 to 36" high it means that is not the height in the middle of the summer, liked you hoped, but at the end of August. I thought for awhile I got the wrong seeds until I looked again. Now that I know they will be that tall inside my 12 inch boxes, I will plant them in a better place. I will get some others that are shorter and faster growing for my boxes.

Basil to pesto

Wow it was so easy. I grew basil this summer in my garden in hopes that it would grow and I could make my own pesto. Lucky for me it grew and I found on line a recipe for pesto. Off of the top of my head, it has basil, pine nuts, Parmesan cheese, and olive oil. Mix up, add some chicken and put over noodles. Hmmmmmmmmmmm.

After I wake up in the morning and the first thing I do is pull back the blinds. I look at this Awesome view of my growing garden. I have only gotten a few things out of it yet. 3 cherry tomatoes, 3 zucchinis, lots of beans, lettuce, small potatoes, 1 green bell pepper, 2 hot peppers, green onions, cilantro. My boys go out and pull carrots all the time. even if the carrots are only 1 1/2 inches they love them. I love having a vegetable garden, I can't wait until more stuff is ready...

Paul built me a vegetable garden this year. I love it. It is right outside my window so I will be able to see it grow everyday. Paul brought home the rocks and I (by myself) moved them with a shovel and wheel barrel. I hope the deer leave it alone so I will be able to eat lots of tomatoes ummmm.

This sweet thing is for my friend Lori and her little babe. This quilt is so spring... If you look at Gracie's quilt its the same fabric different color way. I didn't have a pattern it. I just have seen this quilt around so i just started sewing squares together. I think when I do this one again I will do the light green pieces a little smaller and maybe a red. I quilt it on my brother and shocker I didn't have any puckering. I only had unpicked two inches because the corner wasn't pined very well. I love how it turned out. I LOVE that I found the back in the same shade to match the front. Wow I was lucky this purply pink it really cute but rare.

When I post about Gracie loving this quilt it got me thinking did I post this. Well I didn't. I had so much trouble quilting this, when I got all done I must have threw it up on the couch and forgot all about showing it off. This was my first quilt I machine quilted myself. You can't tell but on the corner its not quilted. That is because my machine's tension was all off and I unpicked a whole spool of expensive thread. When I finally got my machine back after 2 months in the shop. Which was ridculous amount of time. Someone (maybe the repair man) took my walking foot and quilting foot and some other things that add up to $100. So needless to say I'm not going to finish this quilt just to remind me how much trouble this was.

This year for the Gillespie brother sister gifts we decide to hand make all the gifts and only spend 10 dollars on it. I had my sister in law Lisa. I cover a book of Mormon for everyone in her family including her baby that will be born later this month. Paul made this wooden holder for them all and I painted and stained it. I think my gift was perfect for her and I think she like it.

I covered these frames I painted years ago. These took way longer than I thought it would. but they are almost done. Now I just have to get Paul to hang them. I also need to put cute pictures of Gracie in the pink ones. In a year from now they will be all the same with one new born picture and their one year photo. Some of my friends and I got together for dinner. They all gave me The cutest girl things like dresses, warm outfits, toys and other baby things. I just have to show off a few handmade gift I love. Lara W. makes these hair things for flutterby.net. I was hoping she would make me some. As you can see she made me lots and I love them . Lori L. got a sewing machine for her birthday this year. Paul said I couldn't buy another crib set. There was no way I was going to let my little girl be surrounded by trucks, trains and planes. Now you see trucks, and now you don't. I took left over scraps from other projects to welcome my little baby girl into this world. I only took a month of needle work. Someone said to me don't put so much time in just a bumper pad that is only going to be used for a few months, I just had to. I made it double sided. When the baby out grows it I am going to cut it down and use the panels in a toddler quilt for her. Its amazing those little scraps and time will be a memorable piece for her.

I thought I should put on this self-named green thumb blog something that is green thumb gardenie. I always look at my flowers or my garden and think I should get my camera out. So yesterday Wyatt and I did take some pictures of our big carrots. I had to stop Wyatt from pulling too many, he got so excited. I have to remind him to pull what your are going to eat. Wyatt had to take a picture of me and my big belly. I have three more months left, 12 more weeks. It's going to go by so fast. I better get ready.

My first quilt

I was helping my friend Aubrey make her first quilt last month. Aubrey is making a yellow brick road. She is using the cutest fabric. I hope she will finish it, it will be so cute when it is done. I remember my first quilt being really plain, but I finished it.
I machine quilted it with gold metallic thread it was so hard. My tension was so off, the thread kept breaking on me. I had no clue what I was doing. I wanted to quilt stars along the sides but that never happen. I should give a big thanks out to my Mother-in-law, Dayna that helped me.
I think it's great for my first quilt. After making 40+ quilts I am still learning how to do so many things. I think the trick is you have to finish it. So you can move on to another, then another, then one day you find that you love it.

scrappy quilt

I am working on the back of this quilt. I want to use up all my scraps. My goal is to piece the back and bind it with what I have and only buy bat. As you can see I have two of my squares done. I have wanted to do pinwheels for a long time. Just ask Melissa every time I see one done, I have to say "Oh I want to do that next". Now I'm finally doing one. But now as I make these cute pinwheels. I wonder if I should put them on point or should I throw in a log cabin. I guess you'll just have to see. I love these fabrics they make me so happy. This is all I want to do, but I have made myself make dinner, do laundry, and play with my boys. So it will take me longer to finish it but that's OK, who said good things come to those that wait. This quilt is going to be awesome when its done.

Look what we found on our walk today. Lilacs remind me of my Grandma Rushton. She had the biggest bush, it was like 20 feet tall and 20 feet wide. Well my measurements could be off a little, I was a little girl. Grandma would take lots of family pictures in front of that lilac bush. Lilacs also remind me of Mothers day and Sunday church where the children sing to their mothers. I really need to plant a bush in my yard somewhere so it will remind me of my Grandmother and my children's songs.

After I got done blogging about these beautiful flowers this is what I walked in on. Oh well, I guess we have to go get more.

Is it Halloween? My latest project was to make two baby quilts for my Mom to give out at work. They were going to be the cutest rag quilts ever. I got the first quilt altogether, put it in the wash and look SPIDER WEBS. The seams started to come apart, and frayed far past the stitching. I rushed off to the store for some expert advice. Thanks to them and my ingenuity...

Quilting Group

This block is for the old red church they have been meeting for 20 years. The next one is delectable mountains for the place we all live.

This one the log cabin is for the pioneers that settled here first.
This one is sheriff's nine patch. The next one is friendship block.

I have done 5 of blocks for quilting group. We are meeting tonight and I had to get them done so I could show them off. The group is celebrating 20 years of quilting together. I have only gone for nearly a year. 20 years ago I was 10, I'm such a baby in the group. The old timers are bring a block with them each month and we are doing them in our own color skims. As you can see I choose bright with brown. I think they turned out so cute!

Oh my! Its been a long time since I posted or sewn anything. Sorry I haven't felt well. I am 2 months pregnant. If you haven't heard we are going to have #3 around Thanksgiving. Everyone that I talk to asks "are you hoping for a girl?" Well I would be very happy for an all boy family, but it would be very fun to make girl things. I really don't care. So until then, I will make these for my Mom's friends. I love the blue, cream and dark pink. This one with pink and green is really cute too (not me) but cute. I just got the top done with it as you can see I put the seam on the outside. Babies like texture. I hope the moms like it. I will post them when I get them done.

The boys and I planted a spring garden with Grandpa Gillespie. We planted broccoli, cabbage, peas, spinach, butter head lettuce, Roman lettuce, carrots, onions, we have strawberries going from last year. I wish I would have had my camera with me, it's so cute when little kids help with the planting, next time. I love that Dan (aka. grandpa) helps me. I can't have the garden in my own yard so he offered his yard. When we got to his house he had already tilled the garden. so we just got to do the easy part. I am leaving for turkey tomorrow for two weeks. So hopeful when I get back everything will be sprouted. Spring is almost here! My crocuses are coming out. Wyatt and Dean love finding new flowers in the flower beds. I can't keep Dean from picking them. I need to remind myself to plant more early spring bulbs next year. Flowers are a delight when the snow melts.

Pillows are done. I finished them the other night, just before my friends came over. I love them. They make my dark room a little brighter. Don't you think they scream spring or what! I have to tell you free motion quilting was kind of hard I know its just because I am new at it. It like patting your head and rubbing your stomach at the same time. It can be done but it takes some time to get good at it. I think I did a OK job, but don't look to close please.
This is the backs as you can see I left them open so I could wash them after a while.

I did quilt some with loop-d-loops and some that look like puzzle pieces.

Hurt thumb

Green hurt thumb! Paul and I were play fighting on Sunday. It's all fun and games until someone gets hurt. I was trying to punch Paul. Paul was blocking with his huge muscle. He karate chopped my thumb, and I went down fast with crazy pain. Then the boys thought (she's down, it is jump on Mom time). I thought it was broken for sure even the next day it was hurting pretty bad. I thought how am I going to be a mom without a thumb. Today it does feel lots better, the kids have only bumped it four times. So hopeful it will make a fast recovery.
So to some sewing stuff. Yesterday I finished piecing the backs of my pillows. I was kind of nervous I wasn't going to have enough but I made it. It was a close one, this was all the fabric I had left. I got them all ready to quilt. So here goes nothing, I am going to dive in and do it. Oh I hope they turn out well without having to unpick too much.

Top and back are done. I just have to work up the nerve to machine quilt this on my own. I have to stop sending my quilts out to be quilted. It's killing my wallet. If I want to make more quilts I'm going to have to learn to do it myself. I have signed up for a freehand class but its not until April. This beautiful quilt might be sitting on the shelf for a while.

Pillows

I am working on new pillows for my frontroom. I wanted something bright and fun. I want to free hand quilt all of these on my own, but I don't know how and I am really nervous to learn. I think these pillows will be way easier to learn than a full size quilt. So next time you see these babies they will be quilted by me.

I made Wyatt and Dean big boy quilts with fun boy fabrics. I used my Hawaiian friends idea , One Shabby Chick and made up my own pattern. As I was collecting my fabrics, Wyatt said "You can't use any girly or baby fabrics on mine". Everyday for 3 weeks Wyatt would ask me if his quilt was done. I had the quilter put their names on them.
This one is Wyatt's with his favorite combine harvester.

I am done with the top of my Quilt. I am very happy with how it turned out. I have to piece the back, and hand quit the dang thing. Then I will be able to enjoy it. As you can see Razor is trying to enjoy it now.

I started a new quilt with lots of fabric I have had for awhile. The pattern is called the "Almost oh my gosh." As you can see I put a quarter on it so you can see how small each square is. I have to repeat this about 80 more times. Paul thinks this will take me 30 years to complete it, we'll see.

I just completed this cute quilt for my cute husband even though it's not very boyish. He doesn't like to eat his vegis, so I am making him lie with them. He wanted it huge so his toes would be always covered. So this winter he will be nice and toasty dreaming of our garden next year.

He was a little upset thinking that he was just going to get good things to look at, so I gave him one strip of junk food to look at. Cookies and chips. Enjoy it Paul, that's all you are going to get, NOT THE REAL THING

Call me Betty Crocker. Today I baked, sewed, and I also helped put on a shower for my cute friend, Kati. I was almost named Martha, but I dought Martha leaves her boys in pj's most of the day and lets her boys cause mayhem in the house between the cartoons.

To toot my own horn I made a beautiful quilt for Kati's soon to be baby girl. My cookies were a hit at the shower. They where lemon bars out of the box and with a little tweaking became lemon crisps. I put K's on each of them, for Kati. They looked and tasted AWESOME.

I think Kati was happily surprised about the baby quilt.

Welcome to my new blog. This blog is just for all of my creations. I enjoy creating whether it be a quilt, bags, headbands, banners, putting flowers in my old (needs new paint) window boxes, a vegetable garden, or just baking something good to eat. I thought it was time to designate a blog just for these new creations. With two kids, a husband and a good dog it might look a little sparse for right now. So I would like to add the steps and what it took to create something nice. I'm thinking I would like to put all of my old creations on this blog. We'll see, stay tuned This is my new but very old table that my friend Melissa got for me. It looks like a Jr. High sewing table and my Brother machine is too fat to fit into the slot but I LOVE it. My machine is now off the kitchen table. YEAH. I thought this picture was fitting for my first post. Both my sewing machine and my blog needs to start some new projects.
